AQUA
32, PHYSICALLY 20 FEMALE SHE/HER BISEXUAL BIROMANTIC HUMAN HERALDS OF LIGHT |
PERSONALITY Aqua is devout and studious. During her time as an apprentice to Master Eraqus, she was always highly responsible. She is good-natured, compassionate, and generous, always putting others' needs before her own and enjoying surprising her friends. She upholds her duties as a keybearer with a calm, virtuous dignity. She takes her role as a keybearer very seriously and is the most faithful of Eraqus's students-- she is the most like him in believing light to be absolute, and is on the precipice of it being at a dangerous degree like his. Fortunately, her love for her friends and their own struggles with darkness as well as her own have kept her grounded. Her sweet demeanor isn't without its flaws though. Aqua is very quick to judge others regardless of evidence. Although she may have a knee-jerk reaction and feel otherwise about things she's been told, ultimately Eraqus's teachings will cause her to analyze a system differently with almost cold indifference. It is because of this she can come across as a little aloof. Her judgement can be taken to a few extremes-- such as the case when she senses darkness from the Tremaines and marches to their door, keyblade in hand, until the Fairy Godmother shows up to stop her... or when she found Vanitas in Neverland and he incurred her wrath. She can also be overbearing and bossy-- particularly to Terra and Ventus, and their backlash only increases her own stubbornness. The responsibility Eraqus had given her had weighed heavily on her and affected her negatively. Aqua's time in the Realm of Darkness has taken a heavy toll on her, however. Her smile rarely reaches her eyes and she is filled with self-loathing-- for not saving Terra or Ven, as well as herself for being a failure of a Master. She compartmentalizes unhealthily instead of properly grieving, and has symptoms of PTSD as well as depression. The fact that the darkness has touched even her heart is something she is deeply ashamed of. Yet, she has not lost her selflessness, strong will, or hopeful nature, and even when all is lost, she faces the end with grace and an unrelenting hopeful dignity. |
Aqua is a gifted mage. She excels at casting all kinds of magic except for dark, earth, and surprisingly water magics. She is proficient enough to use Firaja, Blizzaja, and Thundaja, as well as Curaga. She also uses a specific kind of magic called a shotlock to hone in on her enemies, with her main three specific to herself listed as follows: Bubble Blaster, Prism Rain, and Lightbloom. Her main form of blocking is not using her keyblade but casting a 360 degree Barrier spell around her, and she can cast it onto others as well. She also uses magic to aid in her double jump.
As a trained keybearer, Aqua can utilize different fighting styles-- Spell Weaver has a blizzard theme and enhances her magic, while Bladecharge creates a longer, magical blade on her keyblade, and Ghost Drive allows her to teleport.
She is nimble and quick-- although she is not as fast as Ven, she is flexible and can dodge easily by cartwheeling out of the way.
Aqua is a Keyblade Master, having passed her Mark of Mastery exam, as well as the Successor to the Land of Departure-- it is her duty to safeguard the castle and train future wielders. Her main keyblade is Rainfell/Stormfall, however, she does not currently posses it nor the armor it is linked to. She sacrificed her blade and her armor in order to return Terra to the Realm of Light. She now uses Master Eraqus's keyblade-- Master's Defender-- instead. It is rightfully hers, as it is passed along to all Successors of the Land of Departure. The spell in which she can chain Heartless is also only privy to those who succeed the Master of the Land of Departure.
All of her spells and abilities are listed in far greater detail HERE.

HISTORY HEADS UP FOR 0.2 SPOILERS. Aqua inherited the keyblade from Master Eraqus at a young age and was brought to the Land of Departure to train alongside his other apprentice, a boy her age named Terra. The two soon became best friends, both with the goal of attaining the title of Keyblade Master. Later into their teenage years, a friend of Master Eraqus’s named Master Xehanort brought a boy to the castle names Ventus. He was fragile—a slew of questions from Terra was enough to prompt an outburst and send the boy into a coma. Although the circumstances were suspicious, Aqua was not told, and she and Terra had been instructed to remind Ventus he had always grown up here. She accepted these instructions without question—she was never one to challenge orders from her Master. She was the one who was there when Ven roused, and although it took some coaxing, he slowly got better, and she and Terra quickly accepted him into their circle of friends. The three trained together, having a healthy friendship and rivalry between each other. Not long after, Aqua and Terra were told that they would have to qualify for mastery through the Mark of Mastery Exam. Although nervous, Aqua remained positive-- she did not want their trio to break apart afterwards regardless of results, and she made good luck charms based on both the paopu and thalassa charm legends from Destiny Islands. "That would be the last night we ever spent beneath the same stars." The big day came and went, but not in the way Aqua had hoped. Terra did not pass the exam due to the darkness inside him. It is not long after this that she and Terra are summoned by the Master to investigate Master Xehanort's disappearance as well as the Unversed, creatures of negative energy targeting the Princesses of Heart. Although Eraqus tells Terra that this is a second chance, the Master clearly has his doubts, as he requests to Aqua privately that she watch him and bring him back immediately should his darkness manifest. Aqua believes that this will not come to pass, but she promises to regardless. She is also quickly tasked with ensuring the return of Ventus after he runs away to follow Terra for reasons unknown to the Master or herself. Aqua pursues her two friends throughout several worlds while meeting and making new friends along the way. Despite continually asserting that Terra would never give into the darkness, her anxieties get the better of her in Radiant Garden and she approaches him about it a little harshly. Terra storms off and Ven rebukes her, realizing that she wanted to take him home. He runs off as well, and she is left to her first fight with Vanitas. He proves to be a strong opponent, but she wins, and tells Ven to go home while continuing her search for Terra. Prior to her argument with Terra and Ven, she ran into a young girl named Kairi, and accidentally let her inherit the keyblade while saving her. She travels through a few more worlds, her uncertainty for what is about to pass growing. At a chance stop by Destiny Islands she meets Sora and Riku-- and Aqua immediately recognizes that Terra performed the rite of inheritance with Riku, allowing him to have a keyblade in the future. It is because of this she decides to not let Sora inherit one, as one keyblade is enough for any friendship. She does not wish them to fight, as she feels a battle between her and Terra might become inevitable. Aqua leaves, her heart growing heavier as she learns Terra potentially aided Xehanort in killing their Master. The young keybearer knows she must confront both him and Xehanort in the Keyblade Graveyard. "What else is darkness but hate and rage? Xehanort is feeding the dark fires within you—making you fight. You'll go astray again." At the graveyard, Aqua encounters Terra and they discussed what truly happened with him and Eraqus-- their Master was dead, yes, but Terra was tricked into helping Xehanort kill him, and only did it to protect Ven. Aqua warns him of the darkness in his heart that could grow out of his desire for revenge, but puts her thoughts on hold when Ven shows up, forlorn and scared, asking his friends to put an end to him. They comfort him, but soon the battle between the three apprentices of Eraqus and Xehanort and Vanitas quickly starts. It is a losing battle, Aqua is forced to take care of a frozen Ven as Terra fights Xehanort and Vanitas alone, effectively playing right into the old Master's hands. Aqua ends up being distracted enough by a fight with Braig that Vanitas easily incapacitates her. In the time that she is out, Ven and Vanitas form the X-Blade, and Terra is possessed by Xehanort. She fights Venitas alongside King Mickey and shatters the X-Blade. Aqua awakens in Yen Sid's tower with the King, Donald, and Goofy, as well as a comatose Ven. Master Yen Sid tells her that his heart is sleeping and he might not awaken for a while. Aqua then remembers the knowledge Eraqus imparted to her as the next Successor, and takes Ven to the Land of Departure. She hides him away in the castle and transforms it into Castle Oblivion, a labyrinth that can only be solved by herself. She plans to find Terra and return to their once-home with him so they can wait for Ven to wake, and his voice leads him to her, however, rather than encountering Terra, she finds Terra-Xehanort. After a brief struggle in which he almost kills her, Aqua leaps back and pronounces herself as Master Aqua for the first time, and demands whomever to be possessing her friend return Terra's heart. The two fight but Terra-Xehanort stabs himself and falls into darkness. Aqua, unwilling to let Terra's heart and body be lost to the darkness forever, sacrifices her armor and keyblade glider to send him back to the Realm of Light. She falls into the Realm of Darkness, which is where she remains to this day. There is no time there, and although she can feel she’s been there for ages, she has no way of knowing how long, for she has not aged a day since she fell there. The Dark World plays tricks with her mind and her heart—it shows her illusions of her friends as well as her own phantom. She sees an illusion of Terra at the fallen Castle of Dreams which she believes to be a sign to not lose hope, but her resolve is slowly crumbled through the taunts of her own dark self at the fallen Dwarf Woodlands. She reaches the fallen Enchanted Dominion where she chases illusions of Terra and Ven until she catches up with them—and although Ven does not speak due to his sleeping heart, Terra is able to talk with her due to his ties to the darkness. Aqua is mildly apprehensive when they meet, though, as she no longer trusts her own heart and mind that it’s really him. She informs him the worlds have fallen to darkness, and he warns her that Xehanort is looking for Ven. Aqua explains that Ven will never be found, as she hid him within Castle Oblivion—but as she says this Terra loses the battle for control, and Xehanort takes over, and Aqua has effectively told the old Master where she has hidden young Ventus. Terra reappears and puts Terra-Xehanort in a chokehold, explaining that it’s Xehanort who possessed him, but he does not get to finish his sentence before he is forced to struggle with Terra-Xehanort. Aqua and Ven are both grabbed by dark hands of a large Heartless, and Aqua witnesses Terra fighting back against Xehanort before she blacks out. Aqua falls further into darkness and would have been lost if not for Mickey. The mouse had gone to the Realm of Darkness seeking the Kingdom Key D, but had felt the call of the light of her wayfinder through the darkness. He was surprised to find her there, and Aqua explains that she ended up in the realm after saving Terra. Mickey informs her it’s been ten years since she was last in the Realm of Light and that the dwellers of darkness she’s been fighting are called Heartless. The two decide to jointly search for Kingdom Key D and the exit. The two arrive at the ruins of Destiny Islands and Aqua explains she had been there before prior to its fall, where she had met Sora and Riku. Since the Kingdom Key D is the counterpart to Kingdom Key, Mickey reasons it’s on the island. They find it and enter the door and arrive at the Door to Light, where they see Riku. Just as Aqua thinks that the two of them are about to close the door and leave, the Demon Tide returns and heads straight for Riku, and Aqua selflessly uses her magic as successor to detain the tide, but she can’t hold it. It bursts and rounds on her and Mickey, and it sends Aqua through the door they came—and it disappears. Aqua fights the Demon Tide with a renewed resolve. She now focuses on being the light in the darkness so that one day, they may find her again, and return her home to her friends. After the defeat of the Demon Tide, Aqua watches as the fallen worlds are returned to the Realm of Light. She falls further into the depths of darkness after this, but with a smile: she is at peace. "The next time someone wanders into the Realm of Darkness, I'll be here. A light to cut through all the shadows. I will be their wayfinder." It has been two years since then and Aqua has recently made it to the Dark Meridian where she awaits with an amnesiac DiZ for a savior-- or, perhaps, she discovers she might not need one, as a portal of light opens up to a world called the Fields of Elysium where she soon falls under contract with a God of Light to bring peace to the universe... |
