PYRRHA NIKOS
17 FEMALE SHE/HER HETEROSEXUAL HUMAN HERALDS OF LIGHT |
PERSONALITY Although a celebrity from her time at Sanctum Academy, Pyrrha is humble and friendly. Her calm nature allows her to think quickly and professionally in battle, and it also allows her to engage in her schoolwork very seriously. She is a bit formal (adorably so) when it comes to relationships with her peers, as her reputation has put her on a pedestal. This in turn has given her feelings of loneliness. However, she’s made plenty of new friends during her time at Beacon, and cares for them deeply. Pyrrha is also willing to speak her mind readily, as her convictions between just and unjust are strong, often making her the voice of reason in morally-centered situations. Her stubbornness can get the better of her on occasion, though. As a teammate of JNPR, she values her friendships with Jaune, Nora, and Ren highly. She can be highly concerned with their well-being, particularly Jaune, who often needs help boosting his confidence and skills. Jaune’s improvement displays that Pyrrha is also skillful and patient as not just a friend, but a teacher. Currently, Pyrrha is tormented by her adherence to her own goals versus her duty to become the next Fall Maiden. Her struggles do not lie with the decision to inherit the power if the case were natural– originally, she immediately agrees to do it for the good of others. However, the ethics and uncertainty behind binding Amber’s Aura to her own make her question her decisions, as there is a chance she would not be the same person she once was. Her inaction and indecisiveness caused Cinder Fall to obtain the power before she could, which led to the death of Ozpin and the destruction of Beacon Tower. Pyrrha selflessly-- stupidly-- decided to take matters into her own hands, and face Cinder herself. Her bravery is her legacy, but also the root of her own self-destruction. |
As a being with a soul, Pyrrha can manifest her soul as an Aura. The usage of Aura is highly important to Huntsmen and Huntresses, and Pyrrha is no exception. Aura is mainly used defensively like a shield when the soul is projected outward, however, it can also be used to heal and be used offensively. Aura is required to trigger Dust manipulation.
The usage of Aura also instills the ability to use a Semblance– a Semblance is a projection of Aura into a form unique to the individual. Pyrrha’s Semblance gives her control over polarity– meaning that she can control metals with magnetism. She uses this very subtly to control weapon movement, both her own and her opponents’. This slight usage is nigh undetectable. (Most likely, she uses it to aid in the direction of her shield and javelin tosses as well as the force they are propelled at.) This gives off the appearance that she is “invincible" and while the reputation tends to isolate her socially, it proves useful as a mindtrick tactic on the battlefield.
In addition to that, she has her weapons, which are used as a conduit for Aura. Miló and Akoúo̱ are Pyrrha’s javelin and shield, respectively. Miló is capable of transforming into a rifle and a Xiphos as well. Although Miló broke in the Battle of Beacon and Akoúo̱ became lost... she has mysteriously woken up with the both of them, fate granting her a second chance.

HISTORY Pyrrha Nikos was born on the continent of Anima in the kingdom of Mistral. She lived a life of success and fame-- the only child from well-off parents, she was enrolled in combat school at Sanctum Academy. There she honed her skills and became one of the greatest fighters in Mistral, winning the regional championship four times before her own graduation. However, she found fame frustrating and lonely, as it kept her from making meaningful relationships. All anyone ever saw was Pyrrha Nikos, the Invincible Girl, the athlete on the front of the Pumpkin Pete's box. So to escape this life as best as she could-- knowing her fame stretched far-- she decided to go to Beacon Academy in Vale rather than Haven Academy to complete her huntress training. To her inner dismay, Pyrrha was recognized by most upon her arrival at Beacon. She kept a smile on her face and her chin held high though, but she could easily see through the hopes of others when news arrived that they would be assigned partners and teams (Weiss Schnee in particular.) Although that changed when she met him. She had seen Jaune Arc before-- during the congregation in the main hall with all the other new inductees in the school. He had seemed nice, sweet, and non-judgemental, someone whom she figured would be perfect for a first friend, but he only upped the ante when he proclaimed to both her and Weiss that he had no clue who she was. Pyrrha had never felt more relieved in her entire life. After joining Nora Valkyrie and Lie Ren to form Team JNPR, it quickly became clear to her that Jaune was a little out of place-- she saved his life on numerous occasions during their initiations, but she believed in him. He may not be physically strong, but he was a good leader, one she found that she could rely on. Her faith in him was tested, though, once he revealed to her he cheated his way in after she offered him help on his combat training-- but after some bullies and subtly helping him defeat a large Ursus (unbeknownst to him) he relented, and let her aid him in his training, on top of the roof of the school almost every night. She at least found it to be romantic. The first semester of Beacon came and went-- with Team RWBY being involved in shenanigans which would soon turn into "per usual." For the most part, her time at Beacon was without complications. She finally got what she wanted: friends and... well, after the dance and Jaune fulfilling his promise to her, possibly hope of a significant other. She passed the qualifications for the Vytal Festival Tournament and was well on her way to becoming victorious once again, not breaking her championship streak. All good things must come to an end though, right? It all came crashing down from a high point in her life-- Team JNPR had succeeded through their first round of the tournament, and she and Nora had passed on through the doubles round. Naturally they voted her in as the member to go on to the singles round, and she smiled humbly, thanking them for the opportunity. It was later that day when Ozpin had called her to her office, when he had insisted with the other authorities-- Glynda, Ironwood-- that fairy tales were real, and she was to take part in them. She was to be the next Fall Maiden. The fairy tale of the four seasonal maidens was a popular one, and one that she never would have thought to have been true. Four young women, granted insurmountable power by an old sorcerer simply because they were kind to him... It seemed like a story to teach lessons about morality, not one that would actually be true. These women could use magic without the need for Dust... and apparently, their souls and powers left their bodies to find another host. Which is what they wanted her to be. The problem was, the previous Fall Maiden, Amber, was not dead. She had half of her powers stolen and had slipped into a coma. The transferal of the maiden powers only had one method of ensured passing: the maiden had to think of the new candidate upon death. Since Amber might think of her attacker, pulling the plug so to speak was not a viable option. There was also the possibility of her power joining its other half... Initially, Pyrrha had accepted when given the offer of the maiden's power, but doubt was sown in her once she was explained the procedure. Ozpin and the others wanted to bind Amber's soul to hers, which had never been done, and there was the chance that her Aura could overtake her own, effectively killing her as Amber took over her body. Pyrrha was left to think on the tough decision she had to make. Her decision deadline was the end of the Vytal Festival, and it was not nearly enough time to settle her inner turmoil. She could become all-powerful, a hero of Remnant, just like what she thought was her destiny... but could she give up her friends? Could she give up Jaune? A discussion with the boy in question only ended horribly. Pyrrha had tried in vain to explain her situation as best as she could, with vague what-ifs without outright saying what was wrong, and in the end Jaune more or less suggested she give herself up to fulfill her destiny. Overwrought with emotion, Pyrrha lost control of her Semblance and slammed him into a wall before running off to the singles matches of the tournament, where she was not in a proper emotional state to compete, but did so anyway. Her match was against Penny Polendina, and little did she know that it had been set up-- Penny was an android, which when combined with a Semblance revolving around polarity only spelled disaster. Pyrrha did not know what happened during that match, one second she saw eight swords-- then a hundred, then a thousand-- She let lose a magnetic wave. There were eight swords, and the strings they were attached to snapped back and around Penny, ripping her in half. Pyrrha Nikos stood horrified. She was a murderer. It did not matter if this girl had been a robot-- she had an Aura, a soul. She was alive. ...and she had killed her. The stadium and Vale erupted into chaos. The Vytal Festival broadcast had been live, and the match had been set up to bring despair to the kingdom, and despair brought Grimm. A massive invasion had begun, and to Pyrrha it was all her fault. Jaune had managed to bring her out of shock after Ruby and the others had so selflessly stepped into save her-- her, a murderer-- but Ozpin emerged from Beacon Tower and locked his green gaze with her own. She did not have a choice to make now. The world had decided it for her. Pyrrha had no time to explain to Jaune what any of this was as he followed her or before she got in the pod. The Aura transferal was an overwhelming amount of pain, one that she had never felt before and she was so, so sure she was going to die... and then nothing. Cinder had shot an arrow into Amber's encasement, and its power joined its other half. Pyrrha had failed at being the Fall Maiden, and as she and Jaune ran from scene, she knew in her heart she had another death on her hands and her heart: Ozpin's. Cinder made her way to the top of Beacon Tower, and Pyrrha watched with forlorn eyes. She knew her destiny. She knew what she had to do. She gave her first and last kiss to Jaune before shoving him into a weapon locker and sending him away-- making him stand on the sidelines as he always had-- before confronting Cinder. The battle was brutal and she went all out. Pyrrha knew she was going to die, but if she could just hold the woman off before help arrived, if she could save Beacon... maybe, maybe it could make up for all the awful things she had done. Cinder proved to be too much though, and after being depleted of Aura and receiving a fated, fatal shot to the ankle, Pyrrha could no longer move. The golden eyed woman locked gazes with her, and she made one final stand, one final statement. "Do you believe in destiny?" Cinder looked momentarily disturbed before replying that she did-- and then Pyrrha felt a sickening pain to her chest and then... nothing. After Cinder turn her to golden ash, her soul carried on the wind and through the disturbances of the the Multiverse, she awoke in the Asphodel Meadows before making her way to the Fields of Elysium. After learning that this was not in fact the afterlife, Pyrrha decided she needed to return to Remnant as soon as possible and reunite with her team. She now lives in the city of Elysium, trying out a new portal each day. She knows she should be able to recognize the one that is her own, but death has somehow severed that connection. So once again, Pyrrha Nikos finds herself completely and utterly alone. |
